PHOTOS: Maplewood Fights Through Rain to Honor the Fallen

Monday’s Memorial Day parade and ceremony in Maplewood soldiered on despite drizzling rain and occasional downpours. Local Girl Scouts, Brownies, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts marched, as well as the Columbia High School Marching Band, South Mountain Peace Action, VFW Post 10120, Seth Boyden School PTA, Clinton School PTA and other local groups.

Brooke Jenkins, age 7, joined Mayor Victor DeLuca as “Mayor for a Day.”

According to DeLuca, “Brooke got to march with the Township Committee in the Memorial Day Parade, bring greetings at the Ceremony and help me throw in the first duck at the Duck Race. Thanks, Mayor Brooke!”

DeLuca explained that Mayor for the Day “is an event I’ve done with the Maplewood Rotary Club for the past two years.”
