A little municipal parking lot tucked behind Springfield Avenue is getting some love from the Hilton Neighborhood Association.

The HNA leadership noticed that the lot besides MS&K Confectionery on Prospect Street (and across from St. Joseph’s Church) seems to attract more than its share of litter. To counter that trend, HNA decided to beautify the lot for its current community project.

Ed Zinckgraf, owner of Z.O. Landscaping and Supply Inc. in Maplewood, donated flowers, plants and the mulch, and HNA members Jim Buchanan, Florence Magyar, Janine Marley, Mentha Marley, Maureen Whelan, Meredith Whelan, Lucy Wilkerson, Carol Buchanan and Topfs Pharmacy have performed the planting, cleaning and watering.

Just this morning, we found Carol Buchanan picking up trash and watering the plantings. Buchanan said that signs are being made to discourage littering and will soon be installed.
