Obituary: James Robert Guischard, 60, of Maplewood

On his 60th birthday with his family by his side, James Robert Guischard Sr. entered an eternal rest at Father Hudson House in Elizabeth.

A long-time member of the management team at the Madison Area YMCA, Mr. Guischard’s hobbies included spending quality time with his family and watching NASCAR on Sunday afternoons. Well-liked throughout his life, Mr. Guischard had many friends.

Born on July 9, 1956, in Jersey City to James and Anita Guischard, he was a 10-year resident of Maplewood and had lived in Madison for many years. After graduating from Lincoln High School in Jersey City, he attended Rutgers University for two years.

Serving as the transportation and maintenance manager at the F.M. Kirby Children’s Center of the Madison Area YMCA for the past 15 years, Mr. Guischard began his career in the transportation field with the former Laidlaw Co., currently First Student. For 20 years, he worked part-time at Nicky’s Firehouse Restaurant. He also had been employed by Walmart.

Mr. Guischard was married to Sandra Marie who passed away September 1999 after losing her battle with leukemia. By God’s good grace, Mr. Guischard found another great family and entered a joyous marriage with Becketa Rosemarie. They celebrated their16th wedding anniversary only two days before he entered an eternal rest.

Survived by his sons, Dwayne and James, daughter, Natalie, and daughter-in-law Valarie, he was a beloved grandfather to Brittney, Janelle, Jodi Ann, Bedell, Alexis, and Alex and two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Hailey. Mr. Guischard had many relatives, cousins, aunts and uncles including Aunt Jane, Uncle Bob, Aunt Giorgi, and the Hurley/Terry family.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, at Grace Episcopal Church, 4 Madison Avenue in Madison. Viewing hours are from5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 15, at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street in Madison.
