The South Orange Board of Trustees is holding a hearing and will vote on a contract to award water system operations and maintenance to American Water Operations and Maintenance at its regular meeting on Monday night, July 11.

The contract is part of a years-long process to remove the East Orange Water Commission as the supplier and operator of South Orange’s water supply. In 2015, the Board of Trustees awarded the contract for water supply to New Jersey American Water. The new water system and supply are scheduled to be in place by Jan. 1, 2017. (Read more about the transition here.)

The ordinance for the approval of the maintenance and operations contract will receive a hearing and vote at the Board of Trustees meeting at the South Orange Performing Arts Center at 1 SOPAC Way, beginning at 7:15 p.m. The Board of Trustees will go into Executive Session immediately and begin the open session of the meeting at approximately 8 p.m.

The meeting is available to watch on local cable access (check your listings) or livestreaming on the southorange.org website.

Also on the agenda: the swearing-in of South Orange Police Officer Ernest Morillo as Sergeant; and a discussion of changing one way status of 1st and 2nd streets between Valley and Academy.
