Monster Bawl: Halloween Dance Party!
The Adult School is excited to team up with local band The Brand New Steadys for another year of spooktacular fun at Monster Bawl! This year’s party will take place at The Baird Community Center in South Orange. Join us for a night of tasteless trophies for best costumes, non-stop dancing, snacks and beverages—all while supporting The Adult School at this haunting fundraiser. The can’t-miss event takes place on Saturday, Oct, 24! Tickets are on sale here.
Eva Samo Lecture
Our annual Eva Samo Lecture will take place on Nov. 19th at Winchester Gardens. Jim Rasenberger is the author of five books—A Perfect Coincidence; Revolver; The Brilliant Disaster; America, 1908; and High Steel. His latest book, A Perfect Coincidence is a revelatory new look at the long and complex relationship between Founding Fathers Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, who died on the same historic day—July 4, 1826, exactly fifty years after the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Our new fall courses include: Abstract Landscape: Color and Texture, The Art of the Job Search, Group Drumming, Outdoor Mosaics, Instant Ukulele for Busy People, Bloom Where You Are Planted, Capturing the Essence of Your Loved Ones: How to Write and Obituary, Electrify SOMA, Watercolor Art and much more.
We’re offering several exciting culinary experiences this semester, including Wine and Cheese: A Classic Combination at Lum’s Cellars in Maplewood on Oct. 14 and our Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony at Walia Ethiopian Restaurant in South Orange on Nov. 21.
On Oct. 8 we’ll host a free talk in collaboration with the Community Coalition on Race: Comics artist and political cartoonist Ben Passmore will take us through his graphic novel, Black Arms to Hold You Up—a boisterous, darkly funny, and sobering march through Black militant history.
