Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you undoubtedly know that South Orange was recently dubbed the Hottest Town in New Jersey in NJ Monthly’s Hot Town Showdown, presented by Kings Food Market.
Here’s details from Village President Sheena Collum:
Thank you New Jersey Monthly Magazine for distinguishing South Orange Village as being the “Hottest Town in New Jersey”. Today, in keeping with the theme, we celebrated with hot dogs, hot wings, and hot fudge sundaes. We also had a blast with kids activities, music and of course, a conga line. But most importantly, we used this community event to gather roughly $8,000 in food, supplies and shipping to our fellow citizens in Puerto Rico. Being hot is a great honor but being kind-hearted is even better. We’re proud to be both.
In addition, Collum and Maplewood Township Committeeman Frank McGehee organized a Supermarket Sweep at Stop & Shop on Saturday to benefit Puerto Rican citizens, and in two hours raised $4,326 to purchase and ship food and other items to San Juan, PR residents devastated by Hurricane Maria. Local UPS store owner, George Berkeley, is arranging to get these items there.
Said Collum on Facebook: “South Orange and Maplewood – we hit it out of the park and I’m just feeling overwhelmed and blessed to live in this community of incredibly generous and caring people.#SOMACARES”
