From Bob Zuckerman of the South Orange Village Center Alliance via the Village Vibe:
It’s really hard to believe, but on Sunday, September 16th we will be opening up South Orange Avenue to pedestrians once again for the fifth annual edition of everyone’s favorite outdoor festival of play, PlayDay: Come Play in the Street! PlayDay is without a doubt one of every kids’ very favorite days of the year, and the same can actually be said for adults as well! We close South Orange Avenue and Sloan Street to vehicular traffic and replace the cars with fabulous inflatables for kids of all ages, street games, board games, a sport court, miniature golf, bungee jumping, a rock climbing wall, an art area, live music, the sloppy joe eating contest, and new this year, a giant slide that is 3 stories high! We’re also bringing back our carnival games which people really loved last year.
PlayDay is a free event. However, we do charge to use some of the attractions. More on pricing will be available in the upcoming Vibe. As you can imagine, it costs a lot to bring these great attractions to PlayDay, so we do need to charge a small fee for some of these attractions. But it’s totally worth it! We’ll also have food for sale from some of our great restaurants and special offers from some of our great retail merchants. We have some great organizations and companies who are sponsoring this event, including Extreme Play Area Sponsor Stop & Shop, Play Area Sponsors South Orange Country Day School, Natalie Farrell of Weichert Realtors, and Atlantic Health, as well as Supporting Sponsors Seton Hall University, Robert Northfield of Keller Williams Realty, RWJ Barnabas Health, Thurman McKoy of Farmer’s Insurance, the South Mountain YMCA, Vanessa Pollock of Keller Williams Premier Properties, Mark Murphy Music, the UPS Store, Studio 509, Town Hall Deli and more sponsors coming onboard soon.
PlayDay is part of Stay and Play Weekend, which runs from September 14th through September 16th. We’ll have a lot more on the weekend in future Vibes, but we wanted to get you all excited about PlayDay nice and early, so I hope you’ve got September 16thmarked down on your calendar because the greatest day of play is coming back!
