From the South Orange Village Center Alliance:
THE GREATEST DAY OF PLAY IS BACK.

From board games to basketball, radio controlled cars to rope jumping, it’s the most fun you’ve ever had between two curbs! Take a look at our amazingEvent Map and start thinking about how you’ll Play in the Street on September 17, 2017 (rain date September 24)!
PlayDay South Orange is made up of dynamic Play Areas which feature tons of ways to play in the street (and off the street, too!)

We know you love ’em so we’ll have lots of them…big, fun inflatables for kids of all ages. Whether it’s the giant pirate ship obstacle course, the dual oversized slide or the old standby bounce house, you’ll have more inflatable fun than you’ve ever had. And nearby will be a challenging miniature golf course to test your skills in the center of South Orange Avenue. Note that Inflatables and Mini Golf require a purchased wristband)
This year’s MainStage is where you’ll find the best in live music, dance and of course the Town Hall Deli Sloppy Joe Eating Contest!
The PlayDay Sport Court is the place to go for on-the-street basketball, tennis and soccer. Vose Avenue will have real mini-tennis provided by US Sports Institute as well as a regulation soccer goal for you to take your best shot. The South Mountain YMCA will be running basketball drills and pick up games right on South Orange Avenue.
From checkers to Sorry!, Chutes and Ladders to Rock ’em Sock ’em Robots, we’ve got all of your favorites under the NJTransit viaduct. We’ll also have oversized versions of challenges like Jenga, chess and Connect 4 on Sloan Street.
In South Orange we not only know how to play, we also know how to get involved to make our community better. Meet representatives from more than 20 community groups under the NJTransit viaduct. They’re ready to meet you, keep you up to date on what they’re doing and let you know how you can get involved.
Event Transportation and Parking
PlayDay South Orange does not use any of the parking lots in the Village, so you’ll be able to park using off-street lots. As this event is on a Sunday, the metered parking areas are free.
For your information, all of our public parking lots (except the one on West South Orange Avenue across from Reservoir) will be open on PlayDay, but obviously South Orange Avenue will be closed and there will be detours around town. Jitney Service will be running every 30 minutes along regular commuter routes if you want to avoid any traffic or parking challenges. For all the information about parking and getting around town that day, please visit this page.
Of course, as the event takes place right outside the NJTransit South Orange station and bus stops are close by too.
We are looking for Volunteers to help us with the Greatest Day of Play. If you wish to volunteer, please send a quick email to [email protected]. Write “PlayDay” in the subject box.
