A former auto repair shop that has been vacant for two years is set to become the site of a new childcare center on South Orange Avenue in downtown.
According to Jersey Digs, the South Orange Planning Board recently gave approval for a franchise of The Learning Experience to build a new site at 109 and 105 West South Orange Avenue, near the corner of N. Ridgewood Road near South Orange Middle School.
The 17,000-square-foot site was the home of Ridge Tire, which was evicted nearly two years ago. The development will require the demolition of the current building, and the construction of a two-story building with an outdoor playground and parking in the back.
The developer is The Ridgewood Commons Group, LLC/EEA Industries, which previously developed The Gateway apartment complex.
The preschool expects to have 20 employees and as many as 160 students. It would operate Monday to Friday, between 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Drawings show an outdoor playground above parking in the rear of the building.
