Upcoming NJ TRANSIT & Jitney Changes Due to Construction
Good afternoon, Maplewood. Beginning this Sunday, October 11, 2026, NJ TRANSIT riders will be impacted by Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT’s construction work to transfer the final track from the 116-old Portal Bridge to the new Portal North Bridge over the Hackensack River. This is the final phase of the cutover work that began earlier this year. Read the full NJ TRANSIT press release.
While this critical work will ultimately deliver substantial benefits to riders, it means NJ TRANSIT customers will experience adjustments to rail service from Sunday, October 11, 2026 through Saturday, November 14, 2026.

From the South Orange Parking Authority, September 21:
The South Orange Parking Authority published a new temporary Hoboken-only Jitney schedule for the Newstead and Tuxedo Park/Montrose routes. This is in response to the NJ transit train schedule changes due to the Amtrak slash NJT portal bridge work scheduled for October 11 through November 14, 2026. NJ Transit will not be running trains into Penn Station on weekdays Monday through Friday.
Trains will end at Hoboken and NJTransit cross honor tickets on either the PATH or ferry to Manhattan. The new SOPA Hoboken-only schedule was emailed to Jitney Passholders and posted on the buses. There is also a link to the schedule on the Village’s main Parking Authority web page, and a link to the Amtrak/NJTransit Articles, and NJTransit published Hoboken Train Schedule on the SOPA news feature section.
