Updated March 28, 2015, 3:41 p.m.: Per Maplewood Fire Chief Michael Dingelstedt: “I just spoke with a NJAW supervisor and he advised me that the water pressure in town is being slowly restored so most, is not all, people should have water already. The water company is in the process of sampling the water quality. The ‘boil water’ advisory REMAINS IN EFFECT for the next 24-hours.”
Updated March 28, 2015: NJ American Water has issued a boil water alert for Maplewood, Millburn and Irvington and anticipates restoration of water to the towns by sometime Saturday afternoon. Read more here.
The Maplewood Police Department has confirmed that Millburn and several areas in Maplewood are experiencing low water pressure or no water due to a water main break near the Millburn Train Station.
Maplewood Police Chief Robert Cimino reported, “MPD was notified of a 24 inch major water main break that occurred at 225 Millburn Ave, Millburn about 10:45 PM on 3-27-15. The main supplied water sevice to an unknown number of properties in Maplewood. As a result an undetermined number of homes and businesses will experience a loss of water service until the main is repaired. MPD water service has been interrupted as well. Water Company repairs are reportedly in progress; however, no estimated completion time is available at this time. Essex County OEM (Office of Emergency Management) is notified and Maplewood FD is assisting at the scene of the break on Millburn Ave. Inquiries are being made to determine a means to supply water for affected residents.”
Meanwhile, residents throughout Maplewood have taken to social media to report low water pressure or nonexistent water.
