Here is more information from a release:
Recent incidents at Columbia High School and Maplewood Middle School have understandably raised concerns about how to keep our children safe, both in our schools and in our larger community. We therefore invite parents and other community members to join members of the administration, board of education, and municipal officials to discuss:
- Ensuring a safe and positive climate in our schools;
- Ways to protect our children from guns and other threats of violence;
- Supporting students in times of crisis.
We want to hear from you!
The following people are scheduled to be on the panel, according to a district spokeswoman:
- James Memoli, Acting Superintendent
- Wayne Eastman, BOE President
- Elizabeth Aaron, CHS Principal
- Jerrill Adams, MMS Principal
- Vic DeLuca, Maplewood Mayor
- Chief Cimino, Maplewood Police Department
- Chief Chelel, South Orange Police Department
South Orange Village President Sheena Collum is supportive of the event but as it takes place during a regular BOT meeting, she will be unable to attend.
“Additional representatives from SOMSD administration, the BOE and the police departments will be present as well, should questions pertaining to their specific area(s) or expertise arise,” said the spokeswoman.
