South Orange Police Make Arrests in Theft and Burglary

South Orange Police arrested two teenagers from Newark and one from East Orange on Monday at around 5:15 p.m. for allegedly stealing a cell phone from a woman on Sloan Street, police said. Officers saw the teens running away on Vose Avenue and arrested them. They were found to have the woman’s phone on them, said police. The three were charged with theft.

South Orange Police arrested 40-year-old East Orange resident Vincent Thomas at around 3:55 a.m. on July 24 after officers responded to a call of a suspicious individual seen in the backyard of a residence on Redmond Road, who then ran away. Thomas was seen by a responding officer on Highland Rd. after Thomas had fallen from a bicycle he was riding, said police. During the investigation, Thomas was allegedly found to be in possession of items stolen from a vehicle on Meeker St. He was charged with burglary and theft. The Detective Bureau is conducting a further investigation at this time.

7/28/2015
Theft of package
An Irvington Ave. resident stated that on 7-25-15 at approximately 1:00pm a package containing sunglasses was dropped off in her apartment lobby area by UPS and some unknown actor removed same.

Shoplifting/arrest
Darryle Hodges, a 62 year old Newark resident was arrested on 7-25-15 at approximately 3:00pm after it was discovered that he had attempted to conceal merchandise in his pants prior to exiting the Pathmark supermarket on Valley St.

Warrant arrest
Jean Laurent, a 27 year old West Orange resident was arrested on 7-27-15 at approximately 9:40pm after he was stopped for a motor vehicle violation on South Orange Ave. and during the subsequent stop it was discovered that the subject had two outstanding warrants issued out of West Orange for his arrest.

Theft
A Maplewood resident stated that on 7-23-15 at approximately 10:00pm he left his back pack on the counter of a food establishment on South Orange Ave. and when he returned to it approximately ten minutes later he discovered it had been stolen.

7/30/2015
Theft of bicycle
A South Orange resident stated that on 7-29-15 he had secured his silver Schwinn Trail Way hybrid bicycle to the bike rack at the main train station at approximately 8:00am. The victim stated that he returned to same at 8:45pm and discovered the lock had been cut and the bicycle removed.

Shoplifting/arrest
Nehemiah Henderson, a 29 year old South Orange resident was arrested on 7-29-15 at approximately 9:45am after he was observed concealing several items into his clothing while in the Pathmark supermarket on Valley St. The actor was arrested by officers called to the scene as he attempted to exit the store with the stolen merchandise.

Warrant arrest
Louis McCray, a 65 year old Newark resident was arrested on 7-28-15 at approximately 11:15am after is was discovered during a motor vehicle stop on Third St. that the subject had outstanding warrants issued for his arrest out of the city of Newark and the Township of East Hanover.

Theft of cell phone
A victim stated that on 7-28-15 at approximately 11:15pm he was skateboarding in the NJ Transit lot adjacent to Church St. when a white male described as being 5’7″ in his late teens wearing a navy blue tank top and grey shorts asked to use his cell phone for an emergency. Before the victim could reply the actor grabbed the cell phone from the victim’s hand and fled into a small black vehicle occupied by three other white males. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

7/22/2015
Theft of bicycle
A juvenile stated that sometime between 5:30pm and 6:45pm on 7-21-15 some unknown actor removed her green Huffy mountain bike from the bike rack located outside the town pool. The bicycle was left unlocked.

Theft of wallet
A South Orange resident stated that sometime between 2:00pm and 4:00pm on 7-21-15 he was playing basketball behind the elementary school on Glenview Rd. and some unknown actor removed his wallet which he had left unattended on the ground.

7/21/2015
Theft from vehicle
A Mosswood Ave. resident stated that on the evening of 7-18-15 an unknown actor entered her vehicle (2010 Toyota) which was parked in her driveway and removed several cell phone chargers and a DVD player. A neighbor stated that he observed an actor described as being a black male approximately 5’10” in height with short hair and a slight beard walk down the victim’s driveway and when confronted fled the area on foot.

Burglary to vehicle
A Melrose Pl. resident stated that sometime during early morning hours of 7-20-15 an unknown actor(s) entered his unlocked vehicle (2006 BMW) which was parked on the street and ransacked the interior. No items were removed from the vehicle.

Burglary/arrest
Dillon Rose, a 26 year old South Orange resident was arrested on 7-20-15 at approximately 2:00pm after Detectives determined that he was the actor responsible for committing a burglary to his neighbor’s apartment on Irvington Ave. The subject was arrested at his residence, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.

7/20/2015
Theft from vehicle
A Melrose Pl. resident stated that sometime during the evening or overnight hours of 7-19-15 an unknown actor(s) had entered his unlocked vehicle (2010 Subaru) which was parked in his driveway and removed a GPS unit and a charger for same.

Burglary to apartment
An Irvington Ave. resident stated that on 7-17-15 at approximately 12:45 he came home to his apartment and observed a neighbor known to him inside of same. The individual fled the scene after being observed by the victim. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Theft from vehicle
A victim stated that on 7-15-15 at approximately 3:00pm he was doing work on a residence located on Montrose Ave. and while doing same an unknown actor(s) entered his work truck which was parked on the street and removed cash and the victim’s personal identification from his wallet which was left inside the truck.

Theft of cell phone
An employee at a restaurant on Village Plaza stated that at approximately 1:00pm on 7-17-15 an unknown actor removed her I-phone from the counter after she left it unattended for a short period of time.
