Police have made arrests in the murders of Brendan P. Tevlin, a Livingston resident whose family has close ties to Maplewood, and of a Newark teen who were both shot to death in June, according to reports.
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray has scheduled a press conference for Monday at 3 p.m. to discuss the arrests in the cases of 19-year-old Tevlin and 17-year-old Cheyanne Bond, according to the Star-Ledger.
Tevlin, a 19-year-old Livingston native and Seton Hall Prep graduate, was found shot to death in his family’s Jeep in West Orange on June 26 in what authorities had described as a targeted killing.
Tevlin had recently finished his freshman year at the University of Richmond. The eldest of four children, he was the grandson of retired Maplewood firefighter Tom Tevlin and nephew to Maplewood Fire Deputy Chief Joseph Callaghan.
Bond, a recent graduate of Malcolm X Shabazz High School in Newark, was killed as she walked with a friend in Newark’s South Ward four days after the Tevlin murder, said the Star-Ledger.
The Village Green will update this story after the press conference.
