South Orange Police Arrest Two in Thefts of Laptop, Cell Phone at Seton Hall

South Orange Police made arrests in two separate theft incidents at Seton Hall University, according to the police blotter.

In the first incident, police arrested Daveon Long, a 31-year-old East Orange resident on January 15 after detectives discovered that he was allegedly responsible for stealing a cell phone from a Seton Hall University student. Long was arrested while walking with the stolen phone on the street in Newark, police said.

In the second case, 25-year-old Simranpal Singh, from Lawrenceville, was arrested on January 25 after officers responded to the Seton Hall campus following a report of an man allegedly stealing a student’s laptop from the third floor of the library. Officers arrested Singh as he was allegedly attempting run away after being observed throwing the laptop in the snow.

Burglary to dwelling
A Vose Ave. resident stated that sometime between 8:00am and 6:50pm on Thursday 1-28-16 an unknown actor(s) had broken a window to a rear door and entered the dwelling. The victim stated that no items appeared to be missing and it is believed the actor(s) had not fully entered the dwelling. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Theft of wheels
A victim stated that sometime between noon on 1-18-16 and 1:20am on 1-19-16 an unknown actor(s) had removed all four wheels to his 2008 BMW which was parked in a lot adjacent to Second St. The actor(s) had also damaged the driver’s side door lock and removed stereo equipment from the trunk of the vehicle. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.
