An improv comedy troupe founded by Amy Poehler (and some others) and featuring some of the best talent in the U.S. is coming to SOPAC on Friday, March 11, and it’s bringing along a local guy.

South Orange’s Kevin Hines and four of his colleagues from the legendary Upright Citizens Brigade Touring Company will unleash a 90-minute, unscripted and totally improvised performance for “a high-energy, surprising and hilarious show that has never been seen before and will never be seen again.”

The Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) Theatre – founded by Poehler, Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, and Matt Walsh – has been home to some of the biggest stars in comedy. From TV shows like Broad City, Saturday Night Live, Silicon Valley, Veep, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, to films such as Bridesmaids, The Hangover, and The Heat, Upright Citizens Brigade performers are everywhere. Not to mention in the writing rooms of Key and Peele, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Inside Amy Schumer, and more.

Although Hines moved to South Orange in August 2014, he performs every Saturday Night at the UCB theater in Chelsea with The Curfew. In addition, he works as the Associate Academic Supervisor for the UCB Training Center where he also teaches classes. He has written some videos for UCBComedy.com, and recently had one line on the season premiere of Broad City. According to his bio, “You’d probably like him if you met him.”

Catch Hines along with UCB Touring Company members Marshall Stratton, Jenny St Angelo, Lindsay Calleran and Matt Starr on Friday, March 11, at 8 p.m. at the South Orange Performing Arts Center, One SOPAC Way, South Orange. $25. (973) 313-2787www.sopacnow.org/upright-citizens-brigade.
