Local residents of all stripes came out Thursday night, April 21 to celebrate the life of Angelo Vayas, the beloved Maplewood resident and business owner who died last year of brain cancer.

Folks were on hand to raise funds for the AV Hero Fund, a nonprofit set up by the Vayas family to carry on Angelo’s legacy. The organization seeks to raise awareness of glioblastoma, the disease that took Angelo’s life (some of the proceeds will benefit the Caroline Vandemark Fund at Hackensack University Medical Center), and also will help provide care and financial assistance to local families who are fighting battles of their own.

“Bogey Night” at the The Gate was designed to kick off the AV Hero Fund Golf Outing to be held on Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Maplewood Country Club. Bogey night featured guest “celebrity” bartenders, and chances to purchase tickets, sponsorships and event “swag”for the gold outing including T-shirts and hats. Guest bartenders included WABC-TV’s Michelle Charlesworth and New York Giant Zak DeOssie.

For more information about the golf outing, including how to purchase tickets and sponsorships or just donate to the cause, visit the AV Hero Fund’s website or Facebook page.
