College is one of the most important life decisions you or your child will ever make and one of the biggest financial decisions for your family.

Now, Academic Journeys in Millburn has added a full-service admissions office, Admissions Journeys, will assist families with their college admissions needs. Academic Journeys’ owner Maureen McGovern recently announced the addition of Admissions Journeys to its catalog of services.

Academic Journeys provides test prep, tutoring and counseling services.

The Admission office will be led by Admissions Coach and Maplewood resident Ally Levy.

Levy uses a coaching model that puts the student in the driver’s seat to navigate the complexities of college visits, applications, essays and more, McGovern reported. Levy has worked with students for more than 10 years as an English teacher, Literacy Coach, and Dean of Students in two of New York City’s most successful public schools, teaching a wide range of courses including Advanced Placement and special needs classes. She is certified as a secondary school English teacher and as a K12 principal. Prior to teaching, Levy was a Development Associate for the education non-profit Facing History and Ourselves and a volunteer for Citizen Schools in Boston.

In addition to private admissions counseling, Admissions Journeys will launch their services with a series of small group classes available this summer (starting July 11 in Millburn).

In the College Admissions course, students will gain the tools to explore their interests, rank their priorities, and learn how to make a list of potential colleges that are a true match for their interests and academic profile.

The College Essays course will focus on one of the most daunting steps of the application, the essay. This course is designed to help students jump start the application process. The goal is for students to walk away with a polished draft of their personal statement as well as sample responses to some of the most common supplementary essay prompts. With the essays completed, the focus of senior year can be on academic success.
