To the chagrin of many students and the relief of many parents, school starts for South Orange – Maplewood students this week.
Below, for your convenience is the 2016/17 South Orange-Maplewood School District calendar.
School starts on Tuesday, September 6 for grades K-7 and 9. Start date is Wednesday, September 7 for grades 8 and 10-12. (See the Columbia High School bell schedule here.)
School is closed for Rosh Hashanah on October 3 and 4 and on October 12 for Yom Kippur.
School is closed for the NJEA Conference on November 10 and 11.
The Thanksgiving holiday is November 24 and 25 (with a half day on Wednesday, November 23).
The Holiday Break starts with a half day on Friday, December 23 and ends with the resumption of school on January 3, 2017.
Other days off are:
- MLK Day: January 16
- Winter recess: Friday, February 17 and Monday, February 20 (Presidents’ Day)
- Spring Break: April 10-14 (Easter is April 16, Passover runs April 10-18)
- Give Back Day: May 26
- Memorial Day: May 29
The last day of school is June 21 for K-7/9, and June 22 for grades 8 and 10-12.
