Join the fight against childhood cancer this Saturday, at the annual Kids v Cancer Book Sale/Bake Sale at 38 Plymouth Avenue in Maplewood, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The sale features scores of children’s books, from board books for the little ones to young adult books, said organizer Jane Steinberg in an email. All books are priced at 25 cents, or ten books for $2.

The sale began several years ago, as a way for Steinberg and her family to raise funds in memory of their friend, Jacob, who died of brain cancer when he was ten and in whose memory Kids v Cancer was founded.

In 2012, thanks in part to the efforts of Kids v Cancer, Congress passed the Creating Hope Act, which provides incentives to pharmaceutical companies that develop new drugs to treat pediatric rare diseases, Steinberg said.

“We have so many spectacular children’s books, many of them brand new, and of course we will be baking up a storm Friday and early Saturday,” said Steinberg. “Come for breakfast and a latte!”
