The South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race will host its Two Towns, One Book Series, featuring David Troutt’s, The Price of Paradise: The Costs of Inequality and a Vision for a More Equitable America, on Wednesday, November 19, at The Woodland in Maplewood.
According to a release from the CCR:
The Price of Paradise promises to speak directly to the concerns of residents in communities like ours—older diverse suburbs with tax stresses, concerns about schools, and aging infrastructures that threaten the American dream and the viability of stable integration. It is a passionate call for strategies to create a more unified America in which Troutt envisions regional equity policies and practices that will serve to undo metropolitan inequities that can be seen in urban centers and their greater suburbs across the country.
At the event, Troutt will read excerpts from his book and engage in a community book discussion. According to Coalition on Race Program Director, Audrey Rowe, “This book will provide an excellent launching point for a thoughtful and engaging discussion about how our lives in Maplewood/South Orange are tied to what happens in Newark and other New Jersey communities.”
Official partners for the Two Towns, One Book event are [words] Bookstore, the Maplewood Memorial Library and the South Orange Public Library. The Price of Paradise will be available for purchase at [words] and multiple copies will be available at both libraries.
Two Towns, One Book is a free event and is open to the public.
