Goodstein, the web series produced in Maplewood by Bronwen Jones, Lee Navlen and Joshua Sterling Bragg, has been nominated for outstanding comedy web Series by LAWEBFEST.
Jones acts as executive producer of the series, with Navlen as the series’ creator, and Sterling Bragg as the show’s director.
LAWEBFEST has also nominated Navlen for outstanding lead Actor in a web series and outstanding writing in a web series.
Navlen, a Maplewood resident, said that the year-old series has been steadily growing an audience thanks in part to a dedicated cast and crew committed to comedy.
“Writing comedy works if the actors make it work and our actors are doing just that!” said Navlen.
Goodstein also stars current and former Maplewood/South Orange residents including Connie Romano, Ian Grodman, Ken Pettis, Shaun Chalk, Sean Klenert and Navlen’s son Elijah who plays his nephew in the series.
Grodman, the current chair of the Maplewood Democratic Committee and a former Maplewood elected official, returned to his acting roots, something he pursued shortly after college.
“Ian isn’t afraid to take chances. He pushes me to push the envelope and that’s something we’ve done, which is important because Goodstein is a foul-mouthed, middle-aged pot head who still thinks he’s 19 years old. There’s plenty to work with there,” said Navlen.
Former Maplewood Mayor Ken Pettis has played a key role, as a cop who is more Samuel L. Jackson from Pulp Fiction than police officer.
“Ken’s a natural, a real smooth actor, and we’re lucky to have him,” said Navlen.
