‘CHS Mockumentary’ and More at Young Filmmakers Screening March 11

Max Goldstein and Aidan Romanaux’s “The Cool Kids — a CHS Mockumentary” portrays a week in the life of two teen filmmakers who think they’re so cool they make a documentary about themselves for a class project. As a “mockumentary” and a film within a film, though, the filmmakers, as well as the audience, come to find out the boys are not nearly as cool as they think they are.

As it turns out, the real Max and Aidan may be cooler than their film counterparts. They are both sophomores in Paul Marigliano’s filmmaking class at Columbia High School and their “mockumentary” is a finalist in the Young Filmmakers Track of the 2017 SOMA Film Festival. Their film and others by CHS students and young filmmakers from throughout New Jersey will be screened at the Maplewood Theater between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 11.
