Five Tibetan Buddhist monks enthralled a rapt crowd at The Woodland in Maplewood Monday evening, at the opening ceremony of the Maplewood Mandala Project. Over the course of this week, the monks will lay millions of grains of colored sand into a large geometric pattern called a mandala, one painstaking grain at a time. The public is invited to watch this mesmerizing feat of artistry and concentration which ranks among the most unique and exquisite traditions of Tantric Buddhism.
