Updated March 28, 2015, 3:41 p.m.: Per Maplewood Fire Chief Michael Dingelstedt: “I just spoke with a NJAW supervisor and he advised me that the water pressure in town is being slowly restored so most, is not all, people should have water already. The water company is in the process of sampling the water quality. The ‘boil water’ advisory REMAINS IN EFFECT for the next 24-hours.”

Updated March 28, 2015, 11:24 a.m.: Maplewood FD reports that the large South Mountain Reservation tank which was depleted when the main ruptured is being refilled. That’s why water pressure in Maplewood has dropped off again. Water pressure will be back “hopefully mid afternoon.”

This update from Maplewood Fire Chief Michael Dingelstedt:

Maplewood Engine 32 responded to Millburn last night to assist checking basements in commercial occupancies that were flooded due to the water main break.

There was a water tanker task force (four water tankers) in Springfield to provide water in the event of a fire in the areas with low water pressure and they would have been available to respond to Maplewood if necessary.

We also had a Bloomfield engine in quarters as a back-up while Engine 32 was in Millburn since apparatus from surrounding communities were also assisting in Millburn. The Fire Department responded to several minor calls related to low-water pressure during the night.

NJAW has issued a “boil water advisory” for Maplewood until further notice.
