Maplewood Police reported that on Thursday at around 8:28 a.m. a 40-year-old female Maplewood resident was approached by a man exiting a car who seemingly attempted to physically grab her.

The woman said a man got out of the passenger side of a car and ran toward her with his arms out “in a manner which she perceived as [if] he was physically going to grab her,” according to a press release from Capt. Dawn Williams.

The man said, “C’mon, c’mon” as well as something else the woman couldn’t understand. The woman began screaming and ran away, said Williams. The car was last seen traveling east on Irvington Avenue.

The man is described as a heavyset, light skinned black male with short hair, approximately 5’10” tall, in his late 20s/early 30s, with a gap between his front teeth. He was wearing heather gray sweatpants, a heather gray zip-up sweatshirt and white sneakers.

The car is described as a white SUV or crossover style with a temporary New Jersey license plate and dark tinted windows in the back.

The woman was not injured; the reason for the encounter is unknown, Williams said.

Maplewood Police have informed other law enforcement agencies and have added additional patrols to the area. Anyone with information is asked to call the MPD Detective Bureau at (973) 762-3400.
