UPDATE: Woman Struck by NJT Train in South Orange Identified as Short Hills Resident

The woman struck and killed Monday evening by a New Jersey Transit train near the South Orange station has been identified as Penny Malek, 32, of Short Hills, NJ, according to an NJT spokesman on Friday afternoon.

Malek was struck on the tracks shortly before 5 p.m. by a Morris & Essex Line train from Gladstone heading to Hoboken. The incident led to a brief shutdown and then delays on the Morris & Essex line.

The case is still under investigation and no further information is currently available, according to a NJ Transit Police Department spokesperson.
