On August 13, the Maplewood Planning Board approved a variance for Ani Ramen for a walk-in refrigerator with rear-yard setback, paving the way for a targeted September opening date for the popular restaurant in Maplewood Village.
After the announcement of the 149 Maplewood Avenue location last year, Maplewood Mayor Vic DeLuca told NJNext.com, “We are very excited about adding Ani Ramen to the Maplewood food scene. Our residents and visitors to our town will enjoy their ‘dining experience’ at Ani Ramen. We know the restaurant will be a great success.”
Currently, Ani Ramen has three locations: Montclair, Jersey City and Summit. When the ramen house opened its initial location in Montclair several years ago, lines soon started forming outside and The New York Times posted a review comparing Ani Ramen favorably to Momofuko Noodle Bar in New York City.
What makes Ani Ramen such a hit? According to the company’s website, the Ani team partnered with the renowned Sun Noodle company and tested hundreds of combinations of noodle, broth and other ingredients to come up with their ramen variations.
