Visitors to Maplewood Village might have noticed a store that “popped up” in the last month or so. BKLYN WEST, at 168 Maplewood Avenue, is a pop-up store that might become a permanent addition.
“We took it as a pop-up with the possibility of [staying] longer,” said Avian Carraby, who owns the shop with her husband, John. The couple recently moved from South Orange to Vauxhall.
Tucked into a narrow storefront next to Restaurant Lorena’s, BKLYN WEST is chock-full of beautiful and unique items for the home, including handmade furniture, home decor, pillows, jewelry, handbags and vintage goodies.

So far, the response from the community has been “great,” said Avian.
Her husband makes all the furniture himself, using reclaimed wood and steel for an industrial chic touch. He also does custom furniture work.
One popular item are the vintage-looking painted wood stars, which come in small, medium and large.
The stock frequently rotates. “We keep our eyes open for something new and different so people don’t get bored,” said Avian.
