Town officials, trustees, merchants, members of the South Orange Village Alliance (SOVCA) and residents were on hand to cut the ribbon for the grand opening of the Spring Pop ‘n Shop in South Orange on Thursday.

The shop, located at 65 South Orange Avenue, is an extension of the holiday pop-up shop that was so successful the last two years. The theme for spring is “Dads and Grads,” and there is a large and carefully curated selection of merchandise including jewelry, arts, crafts, apparel, gifts and more — all made by local artists and craftspeople.

Pop ‘n Shop will be open from Thursday, June 2 – Sunday, June 5; and from Thursday, June 9 – Sunday, June 12. Store hours are Noon – 8 PM each day.

You can see the entire list of merchants here on the SOVCA website.

SOVCA Chair Matt Glass thanked the people who helped make the shop a reality, including SOVCA events and operations coordinator Melissa Hodge, Adena Traub, and Jen Glass.

In order to sell their wares at the shop, merchants are required to volunteer their time there. Glass said some have told him that is their favorite part of the entire experience, being able to meet and get to know other artists and craftspeople.

The success of the shop shows “the dire need and want for retail” in South Orange, Glass said.

Bob Zuckerman, executive director of SOVCA, also thanked the team as well as the building owners the Lustbaders, and Hub Realty, for providing the space. “I think it looks amazing,” he said.

Village President Sheena Collum said the Pop ‘n Shop is “a great example of how far SOVCA has come” in such a short time and is a testament to the organization’s spirit and drive. She said there was talk of creating a permanent home to sell the work of local artisans.

Make sure to visit the Pop ‘n Shop in the next two weekends to stock up on all your spring and summertime gift needs. There’s truly something for everyone. Check out our photo gallery below to see some of the merchandise; click on any photo to begin.
