Saturday, December 6
- Prospect Church Secret Shoppe, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — affordable items for children to shop.
- Graham Lustig’s A Jazzy Nutcracker @ SOPAC, 2 p.m., 7 p.m. — ‘Jumpin with Jazz’ adaptation of the timeless holiday classic performed by the diverse and talented dancers of Lustig Dance Theatre.
- Dickens Village Grand Opening, 1-4 p.m., Maplewood Village — Santa arrives by firetruck, houses open to public, readings by town officials.
- Maplewood Village Tree Lighting at 4:45 p.m., Ricalton Square — hot chocolate, “Night Before Christmas” and a beautiful tree!
- Art Pop Up Store @ Geralyn’s Art Studio & Gallery, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Maplewood Village
- Maplewood Village Holly Walk — Discounts, gifts, holiday refreshments and decorations in Maplewood Village. Over 20 merchants will be participating. Follow the red & green balloons throughout town.
- Prospect Church Secret Shoppe: Children preschool-5th grade can shop “in secret” for family and friends; a wide selection of reasonably priced items, “elves” on hand for shopping help — even free gift wrapping.
- In Person with Chef Jesse, 7-9:30 p.m., Ethical Culture Society, Maplewood — Favorite local culinary talent Chef Jesse demonstrates how he cooks some of his best-loved Southern-style holiday fare.
Sunday, December 7
- Run for the Red [Cross] 5K in Millburn, Check-in 8:30 a.m. at Millburn Free Public Library
- Bizarre Bazaar, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., The Woodland, Maplewood — 40 local artists, crafters and collectors will fill The Woodland with their unique, high-quality work.
- Springfield Avenue Holiday Festival at the Gazebo, 3:30 to 5 p.m. — cookies and hot chocolate, courtesy of the Park Wood Diner, photos with Santa, a tree lighting and multi-cultural holiday stories and crafts hosted by the Hilton Branch Library at 1688 Springfield Avenue.
- Durand-Hedden 2nd Annual Gingerbread House Competition, 1 – 4 p.m.: View all the creative entries on display, find out who wins, get a photo of the children with a “Victorian Santa,” and shop at the Country Store for creative holiday gifts.
- Millburn Snowflake Parade, 1:30 p.m. on Millburn Avenue between Holmes and Spring — bands, costumed characters, the Wells Fargo wagon, refreshments and more.
- Friends of the South Orange Library Holiday Gifts Sale, 1-5 p.m. — local artisans sell wares at Holiday Boutique.
- Bang IX: A Small Artworks Exhibition and Sale, Opening Day, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., 1978 Art Center — small scale original artwork by over 40 local and regional artists, affordably priced for collecting and gifting.
