For $39 a year (or $15 for three months; $5 per month), you can become a paid subscriber and help ensure that VillageGreenNJ.com will be around for years to come, providing local community news reporting.

Since we soft-launched The Village Green just over a year ago, it has become an integral part of the community, providing thoughtful, high-quality coverage of the stories that matters to residents. We have been thrilled by the support and feedback we receive every day from readers throughout Maplewood, South Orange and Millburn.

Here are just some quotes from our readers and subscribers:

You all have been doing an outstanding job covering everything. So glad to have the Village Green as a source of local news.  — Teal Krech Paynter

It is an asset to the community…your news is so valuable and on point, keep up the good work … — Kristy Ranieri (Sustainable Jersey)

It’s been a great pleasure to be able to keep up with Maplewood news with reporting of such high quality. The writing is terrific and the journalistic standards consistently high. It’s elegantly designed…and easy to navigate. I had pretty much given up hope that Maplewood would ever get the news source it deserves; but lo and behold, here it is. Bravo, and thank you! — Tricia Tunstall

I just wanted to note to you guys that due to your diligence and straight-up reportage, I have ponied up the ‘big bucks’ for your daily [newsletter].John Branigan

The Village Green is independently owned and operated by local residents who live in, understand and care deeply about our communities.

When the big stories happen here, national correspondents might swoop in and provide a couple of minutes of airtime without understanding the context behind it and the nuances involved, and how it actually impacts our communities. We don’t shy away from the difficult stories, but we believe it’s equally important to highlight the good works and accomplishments that take place every day in our towns, businesses and schools.

Each month our readership has grown; we average more than 30,000 unique visitors, 60,000 sessions and 100,000 page views monthly.

The great response has shown us that our towns place a high value on reliable local news. So that we can continue to expand and provide high-quality journalism, we ask that you consider subscribing to our daily newsletter.

What do you get for your money?

  • A daily newsletter filled with all the stories posted in the last 24 hours, as well as upcoming events, in your inbox every morning.
  • The satisfaction of knowing you are part of a community that truly cares about and supports local news.
  • Invites to subscriber-only events (see more below)
  • Tickets and other giveaways

Your support WILL make a difference. As a small, independently-run organization, we don’t have a newsroom of reporters. Along with a small but fiercely talented cadre of freelancers, we track down and follow the important stories each and every day. With your help, we can expand our reach by hiring more writers and photographers to cover meetings, events and breaking news stories.

If you do NOT want our daily newsletter, you can donate to VillageGreenNJ.com (please note that any donation is NOT tax-deductible; we are a for-profit enterprise):

Those donating will also be eligible to participate in our subscriber-only events and can RSVP for October 8 at villagegreennj@gmail.com.

Thanks for believing in local news!
