Despite the threat of torrential rain that forced the 18th Annual Maplewood Memorial Day Duck Race to be held indoors for the first time in its history, the ducks were not thwarted! The duck races instead became a Duck Fest, held at The Woodland with hundreds of people showing up to support and cheer on the duckies.

Stepping in to carry on the long tradition started by the Maplewood Kiwanis was the South Mountain YMCA, which hosted the event and quickly and deftly turned what could have been a disappointing washout into a fun, lively indoor party. In the end, the rain stayed away. But a grand time was had by all anyway.

Instead of racing down the river, tickets were chosen randomly from a bin and winners were announced. Between each “race” the DJ and YMCA employees kept the place moving.

Sponsor signs and banners were displayed prominently around the Woodland and across the lawn, rather than in the brook.
