Courage to Create: A Three-Session Workshop at The Creativity Caravan

It’s not that some people are born creative and others aren’t. The difference between creative people and others is that they’re brave. That’s according to Debbie Galant, co-leader of a workshop called Courage to Create, which starts in Montclair this Friday, March 10.

The workshop draws on the work of Julia Cameron, Rollo May, Elizabeth Gilbert, Steve Pressfield and others. It is designed to work through common fears about being creative — not being talented enough, not having enough time, a thousand people have already done this, I’ll go broke — and discover why each participant should embark on their own creative vision.

The three-session workshop will also show fun ways to generate ideas and make sure participants leave with first steps for their journey and a community they can count on.

The workshops will be held from 9:30 am to noon on Fridays March 10, March 17 and March 24 at The Creativity Caravan, 28 S. Fullerton Ave. Montclair. The cost is $199 for all three sessions, with a 50% discount on a second ticket for registrants who sign up with a friend.

About the facilitators:

Debbie Galant is a serial reinventor. She co-founded Baristanet, wrote three novels, started Midcentury Modern Magazine on Medium, and was the co-producer of The Chemo Files, an award-winning podcast about having cancer. She wrote the Jersey column in The New York Times between 1998 and 2003. She also knits and plays the ukulele.

Elly Meeks is a writer, media and program consultant for arts and nonprofit organizations. Her last major project helped introduce 3D-printed prosthetics to Haiti and she is now helping launch The Creatively Connected Film Festival with the Foundation for Art and Healing. She also works in collage and mixed media.
