Ghostlight Project

January 19, 2017 @ 5:30 am - 6:00 pm

Free

The Maplewood/South Orange Theatre Community and residents are invited to join THE GHOSTLIGHT PROJECT.

On January 19, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. in each time zone across the country, members of the theater community from Broadway to regional theaters to high schools and colleges and community theaters will  come  together to launch The Ghostlight Project.

Gathering outside of theaters on the eve of the Presidential Inauguration, people will join in a collective, simultaneous action, together creating “light” for challenging times ahead. Inspired by the tradition of leaving a “ghost light” on in a darkened theater, artists and communities will make or renew a pledge to stand for and protect the values of inclusion, participation, and compassion for everyone regardless of race, class, religion, country of origin, immigration status, (dis)ability, gender identity or sexual  orientation.

WHEN:  Thursday, January 19th at 5:30pm sharp
WHERE: Columbia High School front lawn
WHO: Students, parents, community members, artists, audience members
BRING: A flashlight, lantern, or cell phone light
WHY:  Signify your commitment to social justice (this is NOT a protest – it is an act of solidarity and a chance to affirm our values).
If you would like to participate in the planning or play a role on the evening of the event, please contact Marcy Thompson at marcythompson@me.com  or  at bac2@nyu.edu as soon as possible.
Further information on the Ghostlight Project can be found at https://theghostlightproject.com/ or join us on facebook (The Ghostlight Project).
