“Not on Fire, Only Dying” is about a chivalrous, ex-con of Romani descent named Marko, who is in love with Lola, a very troubled recluse. As the book opens, Lola reports her newborn kidnapped from a seedy bar. But no one has seen Lola with a baby. Most everyone assumes the baby is a delusion. Only Marko suspects the baby might be real and sets out to find the truth.
