Soma Treasure Hunt!

Friends, Bargain Hunters, “Yard Sail” Enthusiasts,

Many of you in SO, (home of the Seton Hall Pirates), are familiar with the Town Yard Sale, which has been held every May for the past decade or so. This year, we’re going to expand it to include all of SOMA, have a charitable beneficiary, and include a bit of nautical fun for the whole family.

Both Maplewood and South Orange have agreed to waive yard sale permit fees for this one day, MAY 18TH, to allow us to create THE SOMA TREASURE HUNT.

Participating households (Yard Sailers) will be listed on the big, suitable for framing, SOMA treasure map, receive a festive themed yard sale sign, and treasure seeker clues to hand out that lead to freebies at local businesses, snacks in town, and perhaps some exciting larger prizes too.

We are planning an afterparty for all Yard Sailers as well…. 5-7 at the Fox and Falcon, with 25% off for all drinks from 5-6, and sponsored Grog Rounds thereafter

What we’re asking in return is a voluntary, suggested 5-10% of your gross donation to MEND, a network of food pantries in Essex County that includes The Food Pantry at Our Lady of Sorrows in SO, and St. Joseph’s in Maplewood. (see MEND link below). This donation can be done after the fact – on their website https://mendnj.org/donate/
Example: You gross $500 – just donate $25 after the fact.

More info to come – we are seeking sponsors for some of the fun – Yard Sign sponsor, Map sponsor, Afterparty ‘grog’ sponsors, stores and local business who wish to create a special incentive, etc… etc. (I’m looking at you, Pirate’s Pizza….)

For now, tho… We’re hoping that folks who wish to host a Yard
Sail will send me the following:
– Your address
– A preliminary list of your items (categories are fine: Records, Women’s Clothing, etc)
– Any other info for drawing a crowd (Lemonade stand? Live music?)
