Person Struck by NJ Transit Train East of South Orange Station

An individual was hit by a NJ Transit train Tuesday evening, according to an NJT spokesperson, leading to 15-30-minute delays on the Morris & Essex line.

The 4:38 p.m. train leaving from New York Penn Station (train number 6343), which was scheduled to arrive in Summit at at 5:32, “struck an individual east of the South Orange station,” said NJT spokeswoman Nancy Snyder.

South Orange Police Department units and NJ Transit police units arrived at the train station after the incident, and the person struck was taken by ambulance to UMDNJ. Around 6:30 p.m., Snyder said that the victim was alive but with “life-threatening injuries.”

A dispatcher at the South Orange Police Department told The Village Green he had no further information at the moment.
