Congratulations are in order for librarian Jennifer Burkholder and the Hilton Branch of Maplewood Memorial Library for being one of the 18 libraries to receive a national Building STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) grant.

Burkholder recently attended a full-day “Day of Diversity: Dialogue and Action” workshop in Chicago with 100 librarians, authors and publishers from across the country.

Burkholder will use the grant for a series of programs at the Hilton Branch that involve Common Core non-fiction books featuring diverse, multicultural characters (such as “The Boy Who Harvested the Wind”).

Participating kids will get a copy of the book and perform an experiment or craft related to the concept in the book.
