Need Camp for August? The Y Has You Covered

Many excellent local camps are winding down as August approaches and families head out for vacation. But for parents who need to work through August, what options are there?

One great choice is the South Mountain YMCA Summer Day Camps which “provide a safe and enriching environment for campers to participate in healthy, developmentally-appropriate activities and learning experiences.”

Camps run through August 28 and there is even Vacation Camp in early September to bridge that gap between August and the start of school. Campers range in age from 2-1/2 years to 9th grade. Read more below.

SOUTH MOUNTAIN YMCA – SUMMER DAY CAMPS

Unless otherwise noted all camps run from June 20 to August 28, 9:00am-3:30pm

TRADITIONAL CAMPS

Mini Y-Knots – (2 1/2 – 4 years)  Hours: 9:00am – 12 Noon

Y Knots 1 Camp (Preschoolers starting at 3 1/2 years)    Hours: 9:00am-3pm

Y Knots 2 Camp (Entering Kindergarten & 1st Grade)   Hours: 9:30am-3:30pm

SOMAPY Camp (Entering Grades 1-5)

Pre-Teen Adventure Camp (Entering Grades 5 & 6)

Teen Adventure Camp (Entering Grades 7 – 9)

SPECIALTY CAMPS

Creative Drama Camps (Entering Grades 1 -6)

Environmental Awareness Camp (Entering Grades 2-4)

Global Arts Camp (Entering Grades K-2)

Sports Galore Camp – (Entering Grades K-5) (one more week August 3-7)

Before and After Camp Care Care is available for an additional fee for those parents that need coverage for their child before camp starts in the morning, and after it ends in the afternoon. Morning care begins at 7:00 am, and afternoon care ends at 7:00 pm. Both programs are held at the YMCA Jefferson Avenue location – except for the Drama, Global and Environmental Camps, which are held at their campsites. Healthy snacks are provided and campers will be engaged in activities such as sports, arts & crafts, enrichment programs and more.

HOW TO REGISTER
  • Download the 2-page Camp Registration form, return completed pages to the South Mountain YMCA.  A doctor’s note is not needed for the immunization dates – just the date of the child’s last tetanus shot. A non-refundable deposit of $50 per week PLUS a currentYMCA membership throughout the length of camp participation is required at the time of registration. The balance for all camp is due in full by May 15, 2015, or your child’s spot in camp may be opened up to the wait list and your deposit will be forfeited.  Any changes made within 30 days of the start of camp will incur a $50 charge. Any Camp registration within 30 days of Camp is required to be Paid in Full at the time of Registration
