The following is a press release from the South Mountain YMCA.

The South Mountain YMCA is starting their Registration process for Before and After School Care for the 2015/2016 school year for the South Orange/Maplewood School District

The Y has been administering the School Age Child Care located in all of the elementary schools for the South Orange/Maplewood School District, as well as the current Y program where children are bussed to the Y on Jefferson Avenue or Dunnell Road. The onsite programs run from the end of the school day until 6:30pm to accommodate the commuting needs of many parents.  The Y after school programs at Jefferson Ave and the Civic House on Dunnell Road remain open until 7pm. Registrations are currently being accepted pending availability.  Interested parents should contact the Y at 973.762.4145 or visit our website at www.smountainymca.org.

Enrichment activities are a priority of the program as the Y considers the growth of a child as a whole to include: physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. The programs are led by Adrienne Mtume, Director of SACC, and Tommy Donaldson, Assistant Director of SACC. Both Directors have extensive years of experience and passion for ensuring that children benefit through a variety of activities during both before and after school hours.

The end-of-year Film Festival has always been the highlight where each after school location collaborates on their own short film and the children are involved throughout the creative process. The children enjoy walking the red carpet and showing their family and friends the finished results on the big screen!

The South Mountain YMCA is a premier provider of community-based child care, camp, youth and sports enrichment, and other family programs and events.  These programs are provided in an atmosphere that supports families fostering social connections and strengthening our community.  The Y currently serves approximately 500 families in before and after school programs in addition to over 240 children that attend infant to preschool childcare and over 1000 children participate in fourteen summer camp programs.

The Y is for Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility and is accessible to all people.  Financial assistance is available to the individuals and families who need our help the most.
