From the Seth Boyden Parent Teacher Association:
Start building an appetite for the Thanksgiving feast, and enjoy the late-fall foliage of South Mountain Reservation, at Seth Boyden’s annual Two Towns 5K Turkey Trot & Kids’ Fun Run this Saturday, November 18.
The race will be run on Crest Drive, a paved route through the reservation with flat stretches and rolling hills lined by trees.
In addition to a $50 gift card for the overall men’s and women’s winners, a $10 gift card will be awarded to the top women’s and men’s finishers in each age bracket. Each Fun Run participant will receive a medal, and the top child in each age group will win a trophy. All participants will receive a T-shirt (while supplies last).
The race benefits the PTA of Seth Boyden Elementary School, which serves students within its zone in Maplewood and also draws non-zoned opt-in students from both Maplewood and South Orange – the “Two Towns” of the race’s name.
As they did last year, Mayor Vic DeLuca of Maplewood and Village President Sheena Collum of South Orange have declared a friendly competition between the towns for bragging rights and a “virtual trophy.” Maplewood won top honors in 2016.
The sponsors of the race are CKO Kickboxing of Maplewood, Sarah Gee Interiors of Maplewood, Align Wellness Studio of Millburn, Realtor Susie Adams of Keller Williams Realty, and the grocery store Stop & Shop.
On the day of the race, Saturday, November 18, registration will open at 8:00 am. The 5K will start at 9:00 a.m.; the Kids’ Fun Run will follow at about 10:00 a.m. The event will take place rain or shine.
Runners can pre-register for the 5K for $25 and for the Kids’ Fun Run for $10 through this Wednesday, November 15. Registration on race day will be $35 for the 5K and $10 for the Fun Run. The pre-registration website is https://runsignup.com/twotownsturkeytrot.
Signing up ahead of time is recommended to secure a race T-shirt, as supplies are limited. Race packets will be available for pre-registered runners on Thursday and Friday at the Sneaker Factory at 308 Millburn Avenue in Millburn.
Access to Crest Drive is from the south side of South Orange Avenue just uphill from the apartment building The Top. Carpooling is recommended, as parking is somewhat limited in the reservation.
Come be part of a fun, collegial event for a good cause!
