The South Mountain Y Teen Theatre Company is thrilled to be presenting A New Orleans Nightmare as the spring performance this May. Adapted from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, join us as we travel down to 1960’s New Orleans and encounter the invisible world where Voodoo Queens preside, magic ensues and love is awakened.
A New Orleans Nightmare was adapted by some of Maplewood/South Orange’s finest young playwrights, Evelyn Belisle, Eliana Brenden, Renee Gerstmann and Henry Greenstone. Facilitated and guided by Justine Evyn Saliski and assisted by Mei-Lan Holland, these middle schoolers have used the dramatic story arc to collaborate on a new Shakespearean concept. On March 10th, their story was brought to life by some of the incredible team members at the South Mountain Y, and now it is time to put this tale on its feet! This play will be staged in the round, and will be an interactive experience for both actor and audience member, fusing classic Shakespeare and modern interpretation.
We are inviting all 6th through 12th graders to audition this Sunday, March 24. Auditions will take place at The Civic House, at 124 Dunnell Road, in Maplewood, from 11:30am to 2:00pm. Sign up for an audition slot at https://www.signupgenius.
