With South Orange’s elected leaders already exhibiting their support for the NCAA Tournament-bound men’s and ladies Seton Hall University Pirates (see the story here), local merchants are now getting in on the act.

On Wednesday, March 16, the South Orange Village Center Alliance will be distributing SHU Pirate t-shirts to dozens of merchants and partners throughout South Orange.

Staff and merchants all over town will be wearing the shirt (photo below) on Thursday in honor of the men’s first round game. SOVCA is also encouraging fans to head to their favorite South Orange restaurant or bar to watch the game live at 10 p.m. (eastern daylight savings time).

“All of South Orange is behind the Pirates as they perform on the national stage. We’re proud to be their hometown fans and both merchants and residents are excited to see them play and win,” said SOVCA Chair Matt Glass.

The Lady Pirates will be playing in Storrs, CT on Saturday, March 19, at 1:30 p.m., and — knock on wood — the men will play again on Saturday should they defeat Gonzaga on Thursday.

As both teams advance (fingers crossed), look for SOVCA to ramp up Pirate Pride activities and promotions in town.

Glass expressed gratitude to the SHU bookstore and Government Relations Department for helping SOVCA put together the promotion so quickly.

Look for staff in Pirate t-shirts (and SHU blue in general) at these South Orange Village locations:
