As Frank Sanchez appeared in court on Tuesday, many community members flooded the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office with phone calls supporting him.

Dr. Ronald Taylor was placed on administrative leave with a directive for non-renewal of his contact by votes of 6-3.

BOE members held a lively discussion at the Sept. 28 meeting on proposed new Access & Equity policy.

“As we continue to increase enrollment for Black and Latinx students we need to simultaneously ramp up our efforts to understand what they’re experiencing from a social emotional standpoint in those classes,” said BOE member Courtney Winkfield.

South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education members asked district administration for more qualitative data.

“We’re seeing really, really striking gaps in math,” said BOE member Courtney Winkfield. She called upon district administrators to consider restructuring and reorganizing the district’s math curricula across all grades as part of a comprehensive plan.

Seats currently occupied by Elissa Malespina, Courtney Winkfield & Johanna Wright are up for election. So far, no one has filed to run.

Work to be done include renovating the former pool into a student commons area, library and science lab renovations and roof and HVAC fixes. Postponed for now: guidance suite and classroom alterations and updating the girls locker room.
