More scones are on the way!

The Able Baker at 187 Maplewood Avenue received approval this morning from the Maplewood Planning Board on its plans for expansion, ensuring that the popular local bakery will be able to keep Maplewood residents well supplied with scones, pies, cookies, quality coffee and even more delicious baked goods.

Owner Julie Pauly told VillageGreenNJ.com in August that construction would begin soon after Planning Board approval. The bakery will will double its current size, expanding into the vacant office space next door (formerly a chiropractor’s office).

“We have signed the lease,” said owner Julie Pauly in August. “We plan to expand our kitchen, production space and counter space, as well as our retail customer seating both indoors and out.”

The bakery currently occupies 630 square feet; the expansion will add over 500 square feet to total nearly 1,200 square feet.

Although originally scheduled for review by the Planning Board at its September 8 regular meeting, the Able Baker was rescheduled for a special meeting due to continued hearings with regard to the Post House development project.
