South Orange property owners have had a couple of weeks to digest the news. Now, Maplewood homeowners can soon “look forward” to learning the new values of their homes and commercial properties.

By December 1, Maplewoodians will receive letters informing them of the results of the recent two-town reassessment — and will be able to get at least a sense of what their new property taxes will be in 2017.

“We anticipate that letters will go out to all residents with their projected reassessments on or about December 1,” said Township Counsel Roger Desiderio at Monday’s Township Committee meeting. The next step is for residents who wish to dispute their values to schedule hearings with Appraisal Systems Inc., the company that conducted the reassessment.

After South Orange letters went out, ASI put a worksheet on its website that enabled residents to estimate their new taxes under the new, 2017 tax rate. The process for Maplewood should be similar. Read more about that, and the appeals process, here.

New property values will be in effect in early 2017 but will not be reflected in tax bills until the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2017.
