Visitors to Maplewood Village have no doubt noticed the road work taking place there recently. NJ American Water is replacing several water mains on Everitt Place, Lenox Place, and sections of Maplewood Avenue.

Maplewood Road WorkMaplewood Avenue from Lenox Place to Baker Street — in front of The Able Baker and the new Post Office — has been closed to traffic and parking for several days, which has caused some parking difficulties in town. However, according to township officials, that portion of the job should be completed soon.

“Currently the new [water] main from Lenox to around 50 feet short of Baker is installed,” said Township Engineer Thomas Malavasi on Tuesday afternoon. “They will be working for about the next three days near the intersection of Baker and Maplewood. There is a large stone drainage culvert under the street that they will need to install their new main underneath.”

Malavasi said workers will need to close Baker Street to have room for their equipment for at least part of the time; however, drivers will be able to access Baker from Ridgewood Road or Everitt Place, and the Baker Street parking lot will be open, Malavasi said.

The Post Office and all the shops on Maplewood Avenue as well as on Baker remain open for business as usual.

A tip: the Woman’s Club parking lot, which connects to the Highland Place lot, usually has plenty of spaces available and is a short walk away.
