The Vayas family is well-known throughout Maplewood for their successful businesses — they are owners of the mini-chain of Village Trattoria restaurants, as well as No. 165 — and their generosity.

Angelo Vayas has been battling brain cancer since August of 2013. The Maplewood and South Orange community have rallied around the family, most recently showing up in droves for a recent brain tumor awareness benefit at No. 165.

The community can show its support again on Tuesday, Dec. 16 when Mary and Angelo Vayas will appear on the Dr. Oz show. The episode is on brain tumor awareness and research, and The Maplewood Village Alliance will host a viewing party and benefit at St. James’s Gate (167 Maplewood Avenue) at 2 p.m.

Donations will be accepted at the door, and will go to the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA).

Come watch, donate, and show your support for the Vayas family and others fighting brain cancer.
