Marisa Scott, a manager of the Village Trattoria in Maplewood and a single mother of two, got the surprise of a lifetime on Thursday from talk show host Rachael Ray.

Scott, who lives in Union and has an autistic 5-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter, was on the show to talk about the struggles she faces raising her children and getting her son the help he needs while on a limited income.

She talked about driving her decrepit minivan and living in fear the car might break down. A huge portion of her income goes toward dealing with her son’s special needs.

“He does face a lot of challenges because he can’t talk,” said Scott, choking up.

Then, Ray revealed the big surprise, presenting a brand-new Hyundai Sonata Sport to a stunned and thrilled Scott.
